St Albans pub chef wins BBQ battle

Punch Taverns’ Boot Inn in St Albans has been named Britain’s BBQ Champion.

In it’s second year, the British BBQ Battle took place at Ealing Golf Club and was sponsored by RH Hall, Crown Verity, Simply Stainless and Sharp.

Eight chefs competed for the coveted crown of BBQ Battle Champion.

The overall winner and crowned BBQ Battle Champion was Fiona Dulake, Head Chef at the Boot Pub in St Albans. She won a Crown Verity BBQ, a Simply Stainless chef’s station and a Sharp television.

Judges praised Fiona for her award-winning creation: “Fiona demonstrated the spirit and essence of barbequing and varied techniques. The barbecue flavours, caramelisation and colour really came through.”

Sean Hughes, who has been running the Boot for nine years with his father Will, is delighted to receive this recognition: “I am delighted that Fiona has won this award. She is a wonderfully talented chef and I am thrilled that out of the eight finalists Fiona excelled, not only winning the pub category but the whole competition.

“Fiona and I have worked closely for years and have worked hard to push the food offering at The Boot specialising in 100% home made meals using locally sourced produce.”

On winning the overall title, Fiona commented, “I’m overwhelmed to win. I feel very happy and privileged.”

Punch’s Partnership Development Manager, Mike Taylor said: “This is fantastic recognition for Fiona and the catering team at the Boot. They work really hard to create home-cooked dishes and cater for a variety of events. They Boot prides itself on its food quality and I’m delighted that Fiona has been rewarded for her efforts.”
