Punch Summer BBQ raises a sizzling £1,380 for Children’s Charity

Burton-based pub company Punch Taverns held a sizzling summer barbeque to raise £1,380 for the Hawthorns Resource Centre League of Friends based on Horninglow Road.

Before the Spirit Pub Company de-merged from Punch Taverns, the company chose to donate the funds from its summer barbeque to the Hawthorns Resource Centre League of Friends which provides short breaks for children with severe learning disabilities, such as autism, and their families.

The centre, which also runs holiday play schemes and youth clubs for children with learning disabilities, will use the donation towards taking some of the children on holidays across the country to help widen their experiences and give them more independence.

Children’s Service Manager, Sarah Lunn, said: “We are really grateful to Punch for their kind donation. Our League of Friends main aim is to purchase a property to use for holidays and which parents can also take their children away on holiday to. Unfortunately, we are not at that point yet but this donation allows us to take some of the children on holiday whilst we are saving to reach our goal of purchasing our own specialist unit. It will really make a big difference!”
