Punch proves a ‘Wii’ bit popular at Poplars

Burton based Pub Company Punch Taverns has donated £300 from its Punch Community Spirit Project to the Poplars Nursing Home, funding a Nintendo Wii console and games for the elderly residents.

Poplars Nursing Home, on Rolleston Road, provides excellent standards of residential care for family members with increased care requirements. Residents enjoy a range of activities in the home’s comfortable surroundings and the Wii console is a welcome addition.

Activities co-ordinator Kathy Fernie approached Punch for the donation, which funded the console and a number of games, including bowling and car racing.

Kathie comments: “Bingo used to be the favourite game here, but I’m sure in time the Wii will rise up to that. Some of the ladies here are naturals; they’ve taken to it straight away, especially the bowling!”

“We’re so grateful to Punch for this fantastic donation; it’s nice to see that big companies like Punch care about small teams like us. Thank you so much!”

The Punch Community Spirit Project (PCSP) is committed to making donations to a variety of organisations such as charities, schools, sports clubs, welfare groups and hospitals.
