Punch donation sends local family to Florida

A donation by Burton based pub company Punch Taverns has enabled a Staffordshire family, whose daughter is effected by cancer, to go on a once-in-a-life-time trip to Florida.

Punch made the £550 donation through its Punch Community Promise initiative to The Kids Cancer Charity – a national charity that supports children with cancer and their families.

The funds covered the cost of a Compassionate Care Break to Orlando, Florida where the family stayed in the charity’s specially designed villa situated just 20 minutes from Disney and set in idyllic surroundings next to a large lake. The family also benefitted from free theme park tickets and medical back up at a local hospital in case it was needed.

Mike Birnage, appeals officer for the Kids Cancer Charity explains: “A Compassionate Care Break contributes to the social wellbeing of the whole family and helps improve the quality of life of the ill child. When the child has to continually face a round of hospital and clinic appointments and their siblings have to be cared for, it is often difficult for the whole family to be together.

“A Respite Care Break will help the family to spend quality time together safe in the knowledge that help is on hand if they need it. These breaks are often timed to coincide with the child’s treatment or when the family has hit an all time low and need something to boost their morale and to help them face the months ahead.

We’re very grateful to Punch Taverns for their kind donation.”

The Punch Community Promise involves Punch donating time and money to a variety of local causes such as charities, schools, sports clubs, welfare groups and hospitals.  To qualify, charities or causes must be located within a 15-mile catchment area of Punch Taverns’ support centre in Burton.
