Punch dishes up helping hand to Burton school

Burton based pub company Punch Taverns has funded meals for a school in the Gambia for the whole year in conjunction with a special needs school in Burton.

Punch donated £690 through its Punch Community Promise to pay for the school dinners after deputy head teacher Jill Moore from Fountains Primary School visited TARUD Pre-School in the Gambia to teach and share experiences with the children.

Jill Moore, deputy head teacher at Fountains Primary School, said: “We are grateful to Punch Taverns for its generous contribution. The donation has funded the ingredients needed for the school meals, such as rice, fish and vegetables, which are then voluntarily prepared by three local ladies.

“The time spent in the Gambia was a very interesting and humbling experience and I look forward to sharing my experiences with the children at Fountains School. I also hope to return in the future to follow up on the work we’ve started with the Gambian curriculum and improved educational facilities for schools.”

The Fountains Primary School teaches pupils aged 4 to 11 years with learning disabilities and is part of the Fountains Special Schools Federation.

The Punch Community Promise involves Punch donating time and money to a variety of local causes such as charities, schools, sports clubs, welfare groups and hospitals.
