Pub co employees climb to raise £2000 for charity

Employees from Burton-based pub company, Punch Taverns, have raised over £2000 for two charities after completing the Three Peaks Challenge over the 29th June -30th June.

Staff at the Punch Taverns head office, based at Jubilee House, did the challenge to raise funds for the Punch Community Promise, which supports local causes around the Burton-upon-Trent area, and for Luca Williams who lost his legs to Meningitis and the Tree of Hope, a nationwide charity which offers hope to the families of sick children who need specialist medical surgery, treatment, therapy and equipment.

The ‘No Direction’ team, which included nine walkers and two drivers from Burton upon Trent and the surrounding areas, started the gruelling challenge at 7am on Saturday 29th June at Ben Nevis, before moving on to climb Scafell Pike and completing the challenge at Snowdon at midday on Sunday 30th June.

The team have raised £2070 in total.

Punch employee Dane Williamson, who co-ordinated the challenge, said: “At Punch, we are always looking to support local charities through our Punch Community Promise as well as national campaigns which are close to our hearts like Luca’s campaign.

“We started to fundraise and train for the challenge in February and for many that took part, this was a huge personal challenge.

“I am delighted with how much we have raised and I want to congratulate all of the team for their hard work in what they have achieved. I also want to thank everyone who has supported us and donated to two very worthy causes.”

The team have been fundraising since February this year by organising cake sales, raffle and a race night at the Blacksmith Arms pub in Branston, Burton upon Trent.

Luca’s father, Mo Syed who has been fundraising for 18 months, commented: “The sheer determination of everyone who took part in the challenge was breath-taking. Inspired by the challenges Luca faces each day, everyone was determined to complete the three mountains.

“I cannot thank the team enough for all they have done over the last five months. So far we have raised £216,815.46 and this has made a tremendous difference to Luca’s future and all the good work they do at the Tree of Hope hospice.”
