Planned refurb at Bishopthorpe pub

A Bishopthorpe pub will undergo a major joint investment costing £136,000 by the licensees Gary Penrose and Linda Welch and owners Punch Taverns, a leading pub company in the UK.

The pub closed on 20th May whilst building work has commenced for three weeks to transform the overall look and feel.

Gary, who has been running the Cueball Snooker Club in York for 25 years and took on the Marcia with his partner Linda in January, is excited about the refurbishment: “I could see the pub’s potential and shared Punch’s vision of creating a friendly, village pub serving home made food and quality drinks for the local community to enjoy.

“With the investment, it will be given a new lease of life with a more contemporary look and welcoming feel, whilst accentuating the traditional aspects of this country inn.

“The plans look fantastic; the pub will be completely redecorated and we plan to better utilise the conservatory and beautiful beer garden. I look forward to seeing the end result.”

Work is expected to be completed in mid-June 2013.

Punch Taverns’ Senior Partnership Development Manager, Dave Rowland, is also looking forward to the new look pub: “It’s great that Punch invests so heavily in our pubs and we essentially want to position the Marcia Inn as the leading pub in Bishopthorpe to provide great food and quality drinks for the local community.”
