Derby landlady serves up free lunch for local kids

A Derby landlady is providing a free lunch for children and carers from Sight Support – a charity dedicated to improving the lives of people with sight loss throughout Derbyshire.

Liz May, licensee of Punch Taverns’ Tiger Bar in the Lock-up-Yard is hosting the party of 15 on Wednesday 29th May as part of a fun day out organised by the charity.

Kevin Gregory, Children’s Service Leader from the charity explains: “Sight Support Derbyshire works with children whose sight is limited but who want to gain all the experiences in life that their sighted peers have access to.   We organise regular trips out for the children and so the opportunity for them to have a lovely home-cooked meal out in a pub is a great experience for them and a real treat!”

Liz said: “We jumped at the chance to help Sight Support Derbyshire. It was lovely to meet all the children, and they all really enjoyed themselves.”

The Tiger Bar is owned by leading pub company, Punch Taverns who recently made a donation of £500 to Sight Support through its Punch Community Promise charity initiative, enabling a group of children to benefit from one to one swimming lessons.

The Punch Community Promise involves Punch donating time and money to a variety of local causes such as charities, schools, sports clubs, welfare groups and hospitals.  To qualify, charities or causes must be located within a 15-mile catchment area of Punch Taverns’ support centre in Burton.
