Criccieth licensees call last orders after a decade behind the bar

Criccieth licensees called last orders at the Byrnhir Arms after 13 years behind the bar as Eryl and Linda Roberts are leaving to look after their small holding and enjoy their retirement.

Situated in the heart of Criccieth, the Brynhir Arms has a strong following of regulars and is well known for excellent food, cask ale and the local base for sports and rugby.

Eryl and Linda, who started running the pub in 2000, commented:  “We have thoroughly enjoyed running the Brynhir Arms and I’m really going to miss the regulars,” said Eyrl.

Eryl and Linda were presented with a bouquet of flowers by their Punch area manager, Tony Riley, on their last day (26th June).

“We have received so much support from the whole community and are very grateful to receive such a lovely send off,” Linda added.

“We look forward to enjoying our retirement where I will be working on our small holding. I will miss the pub and will be sure to pop in.”

Tony Riley, Punch Taverns Partnership Development Manager said: “To have run a pub this long and so successfully is a great achievement. Eyrl and Linda are fantastic operators, serving quality drinks in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

“They have put their heart and souls into the pub and after all of these years I want to congratulate them for what they have achieved. The customers love Eyrl and Linda just as much as they love them and they will certainly leave a legacy. I wish Eyrl and Linda all the very best in their retirement.”

The pub is open and James and Gemma Durant will now be operating the pub.

Entrepreneurs James and Gemma, who have another business in Porthmadog, are looking forward to developing the Brynhir into a family-friendly pub offering the best in food, using the best locally sourced produce and suppliers, and developing the entertainment and offers during the course of the week.

“Gemma and James both live locally and have supported the Brynhir over a number of years. They will be running the pub with Ross and will look to grow the pub’s reputation for good quality food, excellent cask and draught ales, wines and events. I look forward to working in partnership with James Gemma and Ross,” Tony added.
