Branston Scouts are happy campers thanks to Punch

Leading pub company Punch Taverns has donated £400 towards new camping equipment for a local Scouts group.

Punch made a £400 donation through its Punch Community Promise initiative to the 1st Branston Scout Group in November 2013.

The funds went towards the cost of the Scout group’s camping equipment, including new dining shelters and tents.

John Bowering, Group Scout Leader explains: “We are an ever growing Scout Group with a full Scout troop of 44.  As we now offer the Beaver Scouts one night away as experience, we are finding it difficult to do this with our current levels of camping equipment.

“We are delighted with the donation from Punch and it will enable all of our members to benefit from the camping trips, learning vital skills as well as having a good time.”

The Punch Community Promise involves Punch donating time and money to a variety of local causes such as charities, schools, sports clubs, welfare groups and hospitals.  To qualify, charities or causes must be located within a 15-mile catchment area of Punch Taverns’ support centre in Burton upon Trent.

Punch HR Director Jackie Burn who also heads up the Punch Community Promise, said: “As a Burton business, we are committed to causes in the community and we have donated almost £3,000 to local groups and charities throughout the area in 2013.

“The donation will benefit all the children involved in the Scouts group and we consider applications for fundraising from all local groups within the community.”
