Punch donation scores big for mini players

A Burton rugby club for under 8s is now on the road to purchasing its winter training kit following a donation from a Staffordshire pub company.

Burton-based Punch Taverns has donated £250 through its Punch Community Promise initiative to the Burton Rugby Football Club’s Under 8s team.

With the cold weather approaching, the team, who meet weekly to train and play friendly matches in the local area, were in need of a warmer training kit.

The team’s manager, Peter Geering said: “The kids who train at the club get a huge amount from the weekly sessions.  As well as getting to grips with the rules and disciplines of tag rugby, they also learn the value of teamwork and respect for others.  Its great to have Punch’s support towards the winter kit.”

Peter Scobie, regional business manager for Punch Taverns, and also coach and safeguarding representative for Burton RFC’s Under 14s team said: “Punch is passionate about supporting local causes such as this so we’re delighted to have been able help the club. I’m involved with the under 14s team so it was an ideal opportunity to make the presentation to the mini team!”

The Punch Community Promise involves Punch donating time and money to a variety of local causes such as charities, schools, sports clubs, welfare groups and hospitals.  To qualify, charities or causes must be located within a 15-mile catchment area of Punch Taverns’ support centre in Burton.
