20 new jobs created as iconic Newburgh hotel closes for refurbishment

20 new jobs will be created as a Newburgh hotel closed on 30th December to undergo a major transformation to improve the overall look and feel of the hotel.

The Ythan Hotel, situated on Main Street, is having a joint investment of over £600,000 by renowned local publican and restaurateur Martin Young in conjunction with Punch Taverns to refurbish the hotel throughout with new décor and facilities.

Martin, who also operates the multi award-winning Mains of Scotstown Inn and the White Cockade, is excited about the refurbishment: “We want to maximise the hotel’s prime location by increasing the amount of bedrooms to 11 and creating a larger restaurant with locally-sourced food. We will be providing a family-friendly, welcoming pub for local residents as well as great function and wedding facilities.

“The hotel will be renamed as the Newburgh Inn and there will be major work conducted throughout with new décor typical of a country inn. The hotel will be very eco-friendly and sustainable, there will be an emphasis on using local suppliers to create a new menu featuring traditional pub classics and some innovative twists on regional favourites.

“The plans look fantastic; we will be offering the community something different and a range of facilities to suit all. We have already taken on five new members of staff and will look to take on 15 more. I look forward to seeing the end result.”

The hotel is expected to reopen in mid-April.

Punch Taverns’ Senior Partnership Development Manager, Gavin Stevenson, is also looking forward to the new look hotel: “We are excited about joining forces with Martin to deliver such a transformational investment to the Newburgh Inn, and create so many new jobs in the local area. We will reposition the new-look Newburgh Inn as one of the leading boutique hotels in the area, with a focus on great accommodation for visiting business travellers, tourists and golfers. Of course, the family-friendly food and drink options will be sure to please both local residents and visitors to the area alike.”
